Biography

Kal is a member of Leicester Biotechnology Group that has a long track record of innovative work in the area of diagnostics and molecularly imprinted polymers and houses an inter-disciplinary team of chemists, engineers and biologists. Kal has established his research area in the computational design of molecular imprinted polymers (MIPs) with high affinity and specificity for a wide range of targets with industrial and academic collaborations. He is one of the main academic contributors in the field and the modelling protocols developed have been implemented in numerous laboratories worldwide. His major scientific achievements in this area are: (i) development of generic modelling tools for computational design of MIPs; (ii) design and development of polymers for separation/purification of drug targets, environmental pollutants and food toxins; (iii) development of novel MIP sensors for the detection of anaesthetics and antibiotic drugs. His currently research interest is on predictive design of nanoparticles for diagnostics and therapeutic applications.
